eSciDoc is a joint project of the [Max Planck Society|http://www.mpg.de] and
[Fachinformationszentrum (FIZ) Karlsruhe|http://www.fiz-karlsruhe.de], funded by the
[German Federal Ministry of Education and Research|http://www.bmbf.de]
(BMBF) from 2004-2009.

Both Max Planck Society and FIZ Karlsruhe see eSciDoc
as of strategic value for the two organizations. Therefore,
both partners have signed a cooperation memorandum
that covers the further joint development of eSciDoc for
the time after the current project.

At the same time, both partners will transform eSciDoc
into a community-driven effort in the spirit of a true open
source project. The Fedora Commons community considers
eSciDoc to be one of the flagship projects in the field
of eResearch.

* The open source philosophy and community model
* the ongoing partnership of Max Planck Society and FIZ Karlsruhe
* the further development of the eSciDoc software
* the extensive services offered to the user community

ensure the sustainability of a state-of-the-art eResearch
environment for multi-disciplinary research.
